BOOK-LENGTH BIOGRAPHIES

To locate books at PJC and other Florida Community College libraries, click on Find Books at the top of the LRC homepage, or click Go at Search PJC Catalog. Click on Browse Lists and enter the person’s last name first; for example, jefferson thomas. In the results list look for subheadings such as Biography, Interviews, Diaries, etc. Also check the titles listed under the person’s name only (with no subheadings).

Index of sources that contain biographical information. Covers contemporary and historical figures from every field of activity and all areas of the world.

BIOGRAPHICAL DICTIONARIES
Biographical dictionaries contain brief, individual biographical sketches collected according to a particular theme or commonality such as gender, race, national origin, or occupation.

I. General

Current Biography
Includes persons of current interest the world over. Photographs accompany most entries. Each volume contains its own index; a separate cumulative index covers 1940-1995.

Includes persons from all time periods and all nations who have made outstanding contributions to human culture and society.

II. United States - Historical

Dictionary of American Biography
Includes now-deceased persons who made significant contributions to American life from Colonial times to 1980. The last supplement contains cumulative indexes.

American National Biography
Successor to Dictionary of American Biography. Includes persons of historic significance who died prior to 1996. The last volume contains indexes by name, place of birth, occupation, and contributor.

National Cyclopedia of American Biography
Includes persons of historic significance. Biographies are not arranged alphabetically but are grouped according to important events, or themes. Consequently, users must use the index to find their subject.

Scholarly biographies of historically important American women. Volumes 1-3 cover 1607-1950; volume 4 covers the modern period. Last volume includes index by area of activity.

To access the following databases, click on the Find Articles link at the top of the LRC homepage. Login is automatic from the LRC Computers. From remote computers, it is necessary to log in by: 1) selecting Pensacola Junior College from the drop-down menu; 2) typing the 14-digit PJC photo ID number in the Borrower ID box; 3) typing the last four digits of your Social Security number into the PIN box. Before logging in, be sure to activate the barcode number on your ID card by contacting the LRC at 484-2002 or stopping by the Circulatoin Desk in the LRC lobby. Once logged in, click on the Alphabetical link at the top of the page. From the alphabetical list, click on the database of your choice.
