Describes and illustrates all orders of animals, from lower animals to mammals. A "Systematic Classification" at the end of each volume organizes animals from phylum down to species.

Walker’s Mammals of the World (2 vols.)
Lists all major genera of mammals and the species they contain. Volume 1 includes a section, "World Distribution of Mammals," which charts geographic locations of the genera and species. Both volumes contain animal illustrations and a comprehensive index in the back.

ONLINE CATALOGS

LINCC Web Catalog
Reference and circulating materials available at PJC and the other 27 community colleges may be located by searching the online catalog. From the LRC home page, click on Search PJC Catalog. Begin with a Keyword Search by Subject or a Browse Lists search using Subject begins with and type in the common or scientific name of the animal. A search by Keyword can be done for a broader but less defined search. If PJC does not have what you need, click on the blue Search tab and click the drop-down menu that says Pensacola Junior College. Select All Community Colleges. Material at other libraries may be requested by clicking on the College Campus link (bottom, left of item record), then on Request (bottom, right).

University Library Catalogs
Access online catalogs for the state universities in Florida. Go to the LRC home page and click the drop-down menu under Books & Media. Click on Search UWF Catalog. Select Subject Keywords under Search for Keywords or Subject under Browse Organized Lists and type in the common or scientific name of the animal. Students can check out up to six books with their PJC photo ID. To search the catalog of another university library, go to the PJC LRC home page and select Search All University Libraries from the Books & Media drop-down menu. Select a university or select the Union Index to All Libraries. Request items from the Florida universities using the Request a Book form on the PJC LRC home page. Access the form from the Books & Media drop-down menu.

ELECTRONIC RESOURCES

Access by clicking the Find Articles link at the top of the LRC home page at lrc.pjc.edu. Select your college from the drop-down menu. Use your activated PJC photo ID number for the Borrower ID and the last four digits of your Social Security number for the PIN. Activate the barcode number on your ID card by contacting the LRC at 484-2002 or by stopping by the Circulation Desk in the LRC lobby. Select the following electronic resources from the Alphabetical list.

Academic Search Premier 
Offers full-text articles from over 4,000 scholarly and academic journals, and abstracting and indexing from over 8,000 journals. To limit to Scholarly (peer-reviewed) journals, click the appropriate box. Items not available full text can be requested through Interlibrary Loan by clicking on Request a copy of this article from the item record screen. Use your PJC photo ID number for the Library Card #.

AGRICOLA via FirstSearch 
Covers every major agricultural subject including animal science and veterinary medicine. Coverage is 1970 to present. Updated monthly. Once logged in, click on Advanced Search. At Search for, enter the keywords and limit to Articles for Document Type. Click Search. Select an item. Click for expanded options may lead to full text. To request a copy of an article via Interlibrary Loan, click on Borrow this item from another library. Some item records contain a link to Libraries worldwide that own item, which allows you to check if UWF owns the journal; otherwise, do a title search in UWF’s catalog by opening another browser window and going to the PJC LRC page. Select Search UWF Catalog from the Books & Media drop-down menu.

BasicBIOSIS 
Derives its citations from life-science journals written for undergraduate students. Includes the option to search Taxonomic terms. Five year rolling file. Once logged in click on Advanced Search. At Search for enter the keywords. Click Search. Select an item. Continue by following the instructions under Agricola via FirstSearch.

Biological & Agricultural Index Plus
Indexes articles out of core biology and agricultural journals. To limit to scholarly articles, click the Peer Reviewed box. To limit to Full Text Articles, click the appropriate box.

JSTOR
Archives the back issues of a number of core scholarly journals. Current issues (past 1-5 years) are not available. Search for the full text of a specific article by clicking on Article Locator. [Hint: Before typing in the article information, scroll down in the Journal box to see if the journal is archived in JSTOR.] You also have the option to do a Basic or Advanced Search for all articles in the database containing your keywords. Article results are relevance ranked. Full text articles are available in PDF format.

Virtual Reference Library (Gale)
Collection of over 30 reference ebooks including Grzimek’s Animal Life Encyclopedia and Beacham’s Guide to the Endangered Species of North America. Click on the Environment category to search either one of these titles individually. To search these titles simultaneously, click on Advanced Search. After entering your keywords, click on the Browse.
